DVD 5 vs DVD9

The functioning of a DVD is described here, as well as the difference between the DVD 5 and DVD 9.

One information layer.Two information layers.
Only one reflection layerA semi-reflection layer (layer 0), and a reflection layer (layer 1).
Intermediate layer made up of a bonding material that sticks the two disc halves together. Intermediate layer made up by a bonding material that sticks the two disc halves together.
 
 The density of information of the DVD 9 is different to that of the DVD 5 although the track pitch is the same in both cases.


     DVD 5 reading
The DVD 5 can only be read from the inside to the outside of the disc.



     DVD 9 Reading
  The DVD 9 can be read in two ways, reading of Layer 0 from the inside to the outside and reading of Layer 1 from the outside to the inside (opposite tracks) or reading of layer 0 from the inside to the outside of the disc, and reading of Layer 1 in the same direction (parallel tracks). This type of option will depend on the
 Authoring and the customer preferences.
