Video CD

The only CD that contains compressed video data!

The Video CD (or VCD) allows video to be stored on a CD. The data is compressed in MPEG-1 format, meaning the disc can contain 74 minutes of video.
It can be read on most of the latest-generation home DVD players, and by the CD-ROM drive in your computer.
It is less expensive than DVD and ideal for short programmes and promotional videos.

The only drawback with this new format is the MPEG-1 compression, which gives image quality similar to that of VHS. Moreover, chaptering and menus are not possible with this format.
